I grew up literally a stone's throw from the baseball park- 2nd East. I would fall to sleep with the sound of the ball hitting the bat while crickets chirped in the midnight air. It was peacefully perfect.
It was the baseball park I spent most of my growing up years. I loved it! We left 2nd East nearly 2 decades ago, but we have not left the ball park. One or more Weaver grand kids can always be found on a diamond. My own Rigby boys join that happy lot. Watching them play on the same fields my brothers, sister , their dad and myself keeps the memories going. It makes my summer. We didn't grow up with much but we had baseball and we had the people with played ball with-- their kids now too join the generational memory making.
Last night was GOOD baseball as our own Cedar National team played the Snow Canyon Warriors. Rigby was coaching and Madsen was at the center of it all. I loved the intensity of the game and sent up a few prayers in our team's behalf. Madsen "rocked" two back to back homers and believe it or not I"felt" it when they were hit. I call it the "Holy Ghost" of baseball (or perhaps my grave whispering skills have lay claim to baseball as well) whatever the case, when the balsl hit the bat- I knew they were gone.
I joined the the crowd of young boys near the creek looking busily for the home run ball. I admired their love of the game and thanked them for being such "studs." They responded in unison-"nope your son is the stud." I know these boys will one day hit their own slammers and a crowd of enthusiastic ruffians will be there to find their home run balls as well- because that's baseball!

CEDAR CITY
– Wednesday's Little League All-star matchup between Snow Canyon and the
Cedar Nationals was a slugfest for the ages that saw the Warriors escape with a
12-11 victory.
The teams combined for
24 hits, including five home runs as both sides showed exactly what their offenses
are capable of doing.
The Nationals came into
the game having escaped a similar duel with Enterprise on Tuesday, coming away
with a 13-12 win.
The Warriors had less
trouble in their first game against Parowan, cruising to an 8-0 victory.
But Wednesday's contest
would be a struggle for both teams as they spent the game trading leads and
exchanging pitchers like they were baseball cards.
Landon Frei was the hero
of the day for Snow Canyon, giving his team the go ahead with a two-run home
run that put the Warriors ahead 12-11 in the top of the sixth.
Frei had a monster
night, going 4 of 5 at the plate with two home runs and six RBIs.
But the
Nationals had the answer in the form of Madsen Rigby, who matched Frei's output
by going 4 for 4 with two homers and six RBIs of his own.
It was that kind of
night in Cedar City, and it didn't take long to get that way.
Luke Anderson got things
going with a two-run single in the top of the first that gave Snow Canyon a
quick 2-0 lead.
But the Nats came right
back and scored four in the bottom of the inning with RBI's from Rigby, Hayden
Zobell and Landon Yardley.
Back and forth they
went, with the Warriors regaining the lead at 7-4 in the second inning and
extending to 8-4 in the third.
The Nationals tied the
score at 8-8 with consecutive home runs from Rigby and Zobell.
Check out his joyous smile after home run #1
