Pearl Harbor-Honoring those who served-

Another great way to honor those who serve our country to ensure and protect our freedom is to visit historical monuments and markers.  Travis and I try to share these experiences with our children.  We love to vacation with our "fab 5!"  while we try to make our vacations memorable, we also try to make them educational as well.
In 2009, we had the great blessing to go to Oahu Hawaii for Christmas.  It was amazing.  To make it even more amazing, we brought along the grandparents.    We spent our Sunday in great reverence at Pearl Harbor.  It was a dream come true for my parents, particularly my dad.

I have many patriotic memories of my father.  He is a great admirer of Abe Lincoln and a history buff.  Every historical marker we have ever passed,  he made us stop and study.  As a kid, I didn't always appreciate this, but today, it is something I treasure and strive to pass to my children as well.

I will forever treasure our time at Pearl Harbor- and hopefully our fab 5 will too.

Mom and dad- thanks Travis for bringing them along....
They were 6 months old when Pearl Harbor was bombed

Its hard to believe that time has gone by so fast!

We took journals for our children to record their experiences in-- Madsen takes a few notes!

                                                              Travis and Jake ponder......

                                                             Sub Tour with grandpa
Planting seeds of patriotism is a great way to share your love of America ....

  2. Thanks, it was amazing-- particularly because my husband had suffered a stroke just 9 months prior- it was a celebration of life for us!
